Transitional rule for old tickets and VAT rate

You will find transitional rule for old tickets following the tariff adjustment and the VAT rate for MVV tickets.

MVV fares change from time to time. The current fare is valid from January 1, 2026. The following options are available for zone or short-distance tickets purchased before this date.

Use of tickets (old fare) within the transition period

Tickets can be used as normal tickets within three months of the effective date. Currently: until March 31, 2026.

Exchange and refund after the transition period

• Tickets can be exchanged for tickets at the new fare for an additional charge.
• Tickets can be returned for a refund. Processing fee: €3. 
• Exchanges or refunds are possible here:
  • S-Bahn Customer Center Munich Central Station and Ostbahnhof
  • MVG Customer Center Central Station and Marienplatz

All MVV fares include VAT at the discounted rate of 7% - in accordance with Section 12, Paragraph 2, Clause 10 of the German Value Added Tax Act (UStG) 1967.
